Meet my new kitten - Shamus O'Malley My kitten has arrived. I had picked out the name Mojo or Orion for my new kitten thinking that he would be a calico (tri-colour) coloured cat like his mother. I have spent time thinking about it since Christmas. I've been trying to choose between a small smooth coated puppy or a kitten. I finally decided to take the kitten that my grandson was expecting to have from his cat's litter. His cat only had the one kitten. I said "We'll take him!". I think that this kitten will have all the intelligence that four or five kittens should have received all rolled into him or he will be a kitten that requires "special education". Whichever one it turns out to be, my kitten has just entered a home of love. I spent $87.00 at Wal-Mart buying a kitten "started kit" of my own design. Tomorrow I am going to buy him something new for a surprise. I wanted to spend a little time getting to know each other before I bought him a new toy. He is not a calico cat, he is a beautiful orange-ginger and pale salmon coloured cat with a speck of white around his green eyes and under his chin. As soon as I understood how much the names Mojo and Orion did not suit the coat-colour of this kitten, I knew that his name would have to change. I announced that his name would be "O'Malley". Three days later, after toying with the first names, we (my husband and I) agreed to calling our new kitten "Shamus O'Malley" the name that was deleted was "Angus O'Malley". "Angus O'Malley" travelled from Ottawa to North Bay by cat carrier in a car. Before we left Kanata, his name was "Shamus O'Malley". There were a few moments of distress initially and after starting up again from a brief stop. Shamus O'Malley slept most of the way from Chalk River to North Bay without crying or pawing at the cage (cat carrier). He is settling in for his first evening with us. He seems very relaxed. I will keep you posted on Shamus O'Malley's adventures. " I think this is going to be the beginning of a beautiful friendship."

Shamus O'Malley is sleeping in my right hand (arm) while I type with my left. He seems interested in every action I perform. He is extremely bright - I'm not just saying that because he's my kitten - he is smart. We had a good first week together. He had some social problems with my husband in the second week. O'Malley enjoys watching curling, tennis and listening to music. I can partly thank the Cats Annual Catalogue for my husband's understanding of "kitten life". They have worked it out and everything is peaceful now. He loves sparkly ribbon, toys that rattle and his scratching post (he can perch on top of it) the most.
